As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for the optimal performance of the mechanical engineering department. You ensure that projects run smoothly, and processes are effectively structured
Job description
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for building and maintaining a strong engineering team, as well as continuously improving the way we work. At Eurosort, you are the connecting force behind the development of people, processes, and technical quality. You combine leadership with hands-on involvement and ensure that your team improves every day.
In this role, the focus is not only on technology, but also on developing and connecting people and optimizing processes. You create structure, bring focus, and enable engineers to perform at their best. As a true “player-coach,” you primarily focus on coaching, facilitating, and improving, while stepping in on complex technical challenges when needed. You safeguard the bigger picture and ensure everything aligns—from collaboration and ways of working to output and quality. The team consists of 11 Mechanical Engineers, spread across different levels, roles, and responsibilities.
What do we offer
An attractive salary that reflects the seniority of the role and your experience
Performance-based bonus scheme up to 150% of your gross monthly salary
30 vacation days per year
70% pension contribution covered
Travel allowance (€0.23 per km)
Laptop and phone (also for personal use)
A key role within an international and growing organization
A high level of responsibility, autonomy, and impact
Plenty of room for personal and professional development
Training and courses (technical & soft skills)
Working on complex, high-tech machine building projects
A strong and informal engineering team with short communication lines
What will you do
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for the optimal performance of the mechanical engineering department. You ensure that projects run smoothly, processes are effectively structured, and engineers continuously develop.
You work in an agile/scrum environment where you facilitate sprint processes and bring structure. You oversee multiple projects simultaneously and support engineers where needed. Your focus is on improving collaboration, increasing quality, and scaling the department.
You play a central role in professionalizing the organization: you drive standardization, optimize workflows, and ensure that more projects can be delivered without increasing complexity.
You work closely with Project Lead Engineers, Project Managers, and other departments, ensuring alignment across the organization.
Concretely, this means:
Leading and developing the mechanical engineering team
Coaching, mentoring, and guiding junior, medior, and senior engineers
Stimulating personal growth, ownership, and team development
Safeguarding technical quality and consistency across all projects
Facilitating sprint processes (planning, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives)
Organizing and ensuring design reviews and quality control processes
Monitoring project progress, workload, and team performance
Acting as an escalation point for complex technical challenges
Actively contributing to projects on critical or complex engineering tasks
Aligning with Project Leads, Project Managers, and other stakeholders
Initiating and implementing process improvements within engineering
Driving standardization, modularization, and efficiency
Improving “first time right” and reducing lead times
Ensuring proper use of systems such as Inventor, Vault, Ridder IQ, and Jira
Further developing and safeguarding engineering processes and ways of working
Creating a strong team culture focused on feedback, collaboration, and growth
Job requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO/WO) in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Minimum of 8 years of experience in machine building or a similar industry
Proven experience in leading teams or departments
Strong technical foundation in mechanical engineering and CAD (Inventor)
Experience with PDM/ERP systems (such as Vault and Ridder IQ) and Jira is a plus
Knowledge of production processes, assembly, and GD&T
Experience with CE guidelines and machine safety
Strong leadership and coaching skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
The ability to convince, connect, and provide direction
Fluent in Dutch and English
